Last Saturday night my family and I went to the Desert Botanical Garden for a Flashlight Tour. During the Desert Botanical Garden’s Flashlight Tours, you’re able to experience the desert’s plants and animals in an interactive way after the sun goes down. The tours are sensory adventures through the sights and sounds of the desert night. Guests shine their own flashlights along the self-paced trails to capture night-blooming plants and animals that are active in the desert after dark (or siblings will shine their flashlights in each others eyes like my kids did!) Many of the plants and animals have important interactions at night, they are working together at night in the desert. Many of the flowers that are blooming at night are very light and colorful because they are trying to attract pollinators.
Over the years, flashlight tours have had unexpected visitors, such as kingsnakes, great horned owls and coyotes. The Flashlight Tours will continue this summer on Saturday nights from 7-9:30pm through September 1st, 2018. If you go, give me a call and let us know what your favorite part was! 480-500-1738
