Store the smartphone-
Except for emergencies or a picture store the phones away. Falls or twisted ankles can be easily caused by inattentive to trail conditions while checking your phone.

Focus on the journey, not the destination-
Be a good role model for your kids and look for birds or wildlife and stop at viewpoints to soak in the scenery.

Schedule hike time and distance appropriately-
If possible, start your hike in the morning when it’s cooler and kids are more alert and enthusiastic.

Carry healthy snacks and plenty of water-
Kids will enjoy the hike more if they’re properly hydrated and energized. At a scenic spot along the way, take a healthy snack break.
