The Tempe Exchange Club will again host the 16th Annual Healing Field for the greater Phoenix community. The inspiring formation of U.S. flags honors the victims of the September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks. Everyone is invited to walk through the ordered rows of flags posted at Tempe Beach Park from September 7th to the 12th.
Visiting the field is an experience never to be forgotten. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to visit the field this week with my family. We spent an hour walking though the field reading the tags hanging from the nearly 3000 flags. Each tag has the name of a victim, their age and a brief personal description. There was one tag we read with the name of a Phoenix resident who was visiting the World Trade Center for only one day of new job training, but the hardest to read were the tags of the young children.
If you have never taken the time to go to Tempe Town Lake to visit this memorial, I encourage you to do so. My family and I plan to go again next year to honor those who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001.
A candlelight vigil will be held September 11th from 7-9pm. For more information, visit: tempehealingfield.org
