The Fountain HIlls Town council started the new year by approving a design contract for the $1.5 million final phase of a multiyear improvement plan for Fountain Park. The long overdue make-over includes reconstruction of Saguaro Blvd and Shea Blvd, expanding Shea Blvd to three lanes in both directions from Beeline Highway to Technology Drive. In addition, traffic signals will be upgraded. A renovation of downtown’s Avenue of the Fountains is also planned including replacing fountains, dying trees, sidewalks, electrical and irrigation systems. The final phase will include improvements to the park itself such as pathway lighting, park signs, monument signs, parking lot improvement and electrical upgrades at the amphitheater. Fountain Hills is doing this project with the hope that the renovation will make the town even more attractive for visitors. Improvements are slated to be finished by March 2014.
