I’ve been to the Grayhawk tennis courts at Grayhawk Neighborhood park many times with the kids for soccer and baseball games, but I recently picked up my tennis game again, and have discovered they’ve got great public tennis courts as well.
The courts are available on a first come first serve basis, and limited to an hour of time if there are others waiting. They are also lighted, and I have found that while my kids are at ball practice, there are easily enough courts and people for me to pick up a casual game.
Lessons through Scottsdale Parks and Recreation are offered at this park, but I recommend these for the kids mostly. They have a good staff for the basics. The city of Scottsdale also operates tennis centers at Scottsdale Ranch Park and Indian School Park.
I’ve been taking my lessons at through The Arizona Tennis Association (ATA), which has a pro who offers beginning to Adult Intermediate II lessons at the Marriott Desert Ridge Resort, which have great tennis facilities and is located a short drive from Grayhawk to Desert Ridge. They also have a private tennis club, offering new player junior and adult programs, team tennis, tournaments and round robins.
If you are a tennis enthusiast, and would like the tennis club and country club experience, The Country Club at DC Ranch is a short drive from Grayhawk. They have an established program and 6 Championship Hard Courts, including 5 Lighted Courts. They offer player developmental programs, match play and tournaments. And of course if you join, you also have access to tennis, fitness, swimming, exceptional dining venues and a variety of social events.
The Scottsdale Princess Resort (better known as the hosting resort for the WM Phoenix Open) located a short drive up Scottsdale Road from Grayhawk, has been a regular pro tennis tour stop for 16 years.
They offer tennis memberships to their tennis club, which includes year-round access to the Tennis Center. With very competitive rates, members pay a registration/monthly fee for single or family membership.
