The June 2015 issue of DC Ranch News recognizes neighborhood volunteers. While many DC Ranch residents give back to the community, several exceptionally dedicated residents were honored recently by the Community Council at its annual Volunteer Appreciation Celebration at the Desert Camp Community Center.
Volunteer of the Year Award for Leadership went to two outstanding residents this year. Ranch Association Board President Fred Green was honored for his relationship building and guidance. Leslie Gilchrist, Community Garden committee chair, was praised for instrumental role in the success of the DC Ranch Community Garden at Copper Ridge School. Resident Cindy Romano received the Good Neighbor award for her exceptional work as a Neighborhood Voting Member dedicated to community improvements. Resident Judy Peavy received the Philanthropic award for her coordination of the Easter baskets donations for a local charity. Little Sunshine’s Playhouse and Preschool was also awarded the annual Merchant award for its contributions to community events, including the Community Council’s Storytime program.
In addition to recognizing neighbor volunteers at the ceremony, the Community Council partnered with the Phoenix Rescue Mission for attendees to assemble “Hope Totes” filled with personal hygiene items. With everyone’s teamwork, 500 totes were made that will be delivered to homeless individuals in need of basic supplies.
