The Arizona Republic recently published an artilcle titled “The 5 Most Beautiful Schools in Metro Phoenix”. The Sibbach Team frequenlty works within two of the school boundaries and as the new school year begins we would like to recognize these two beautiful schools!
Arcadia High School
Scottsdale Unified School District
4703 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix
Year built: 1958, renovated in 2008
Enrollment: 1,800 ninth through 12th graders
Architectural features: Arcadia High is known for its two round buildings-the cafeteria and a round classroom and administration building that is known as Mount Olympus. Mount Olympus was originally the school library, it is the only original room remaining after a $45 million campus remodel in 2008.
Some of the Valley’s most famous celebrities attended Arcadia: Film director Steven Spielberg, actress Lynda Carter and singer Stevie Nicks. Spielberg made his first film when he was a student at Arcadia- “Firelight” was a prequel to “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”. The movie featured red round space ships that are said to have been inspired by Arcadia’s round rooms.
Fountain Hills High School
Fountain Hills Unified School District
16100 E Palisades Blvd, Fountain Hills
Year built: 1991
Enrollment: 630 ninth through 12th graders
Architectural features: Architects took into consideration the natural beauty of the land and views that surround the school.
Principal Tom Brennan states, “Our school was built to purposefully blend with our natural environment. Nestled in the Ashbrook Desert Wash–our community’s ‘wildlife superhighway,’ the high school blends into the surrounding scenery almost as if camouflaged. The buildings’ colors pick up the red rock, beiges, and azures of nature, created with Sedona-colored brick topped by a sky blue roof. Entirely landscaped with Arizona desert vegetation, saguaro cacti share space with acacia trees, agaves, desert mallow and prickly pears.”
