Navajo Elementary School is located at 4525 N. Granite Reef Road in the Scottsdale Unified School District. This K-5 school has approximately 480 students. Principal Amy Moore says the mission of Navajo is to “Build character, competence, and community”. Curriculum at Navajo Elementary includes language arts, social studies, math, science, and intervention/enrichment. Navajo is a STEM focused school. STEM stands for Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics.
Navajo’s Building Blocks program is designed to help students make good choices. When students are “caught” being good, they can receive a small business card size card with their name on it. At the end of each week, they are placed in a box and picked to win a prize. The more a student is caught doing something good, they more chances they have to win. This program has made a big difference in the overall atmosphere at Navajo, with students actively seeking to reach out and do good. This helps students say positive and stay involved.
Other ways for students to stay involved is to join one of several clubs. Lego Robotics, Student council, kids club, and city of Scottsdale after school programs are just a few. Students can also join choir, band or strings.
Navajo Elementary School has a very active PTO that has given much support to the school and its programs such as the Teacher Assistance Programs, Vision and Hearing Screening, Yearbook, Harvest Festival, Teacher Appreciation week, Book Fair, Garden committee and much more.
